US Travel Association To Unveil Airport

The U.S. Travel Association on March 16 is unveiling a roadmap for revamping the entire airport security process, the trade group said, not just regarding body scans and pat-downs.

The “Blue Ribbon Panel for Frictionless Air Security” study has been in the works for more than a year, US Travel Association spokeswoman Cathy Keefe says. The panel, comprising industry and former government officials, is expected to announce a reworked trusted traveler program that could ease congestion at airport security checkpoints. The panel also is expected to detail how the plan would work at airports and is expected to address baggage collection reforms, Keefe says.

The panel grew out of traveler frustration with the U.S. airport security system, the US Travel Association says.

The plan will be unveiled today in a forum hosted by Washington Post Live that will feature former Homeland Security Department Secretary Tom Ridge and New Age Security Solutions President Rafi Ron, a former director of security at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport.
